Jon Adrian Velazquez is a filmmaker, actor, and former convict who gained international attention when he was convicted of murder in 2005. Velazquez was born in Harlem, New York City in 1978 and began his acting career in the early 2000s. He appeared in several films and television shows before being arrested and convicted of second-degree murder in 2005 for the shooting death of a man in Harlem in 1998.
Despite maintaining his innocence, Velazquez was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. However, in 2013, new evidence emerged that cast doubt on his guilt, leading to an investigation and ultimately his release from prison in 2018. Velazquez has since returned to his filmmaking career and is working on various projects to raise awareness about wrongful convictions and the flaws in the criminal justice system.
